HOOKED on Rhythm Gaming

If you have preordered a Rock Band 3 Keyboard bundle for PS3, you might want to go check in with the retailer to see what’s going to happen, because there were some issues that Harmonix has declined to specify causing the bundle to be cancelled. I received a phone call from Gamestop regarding this, but if you are through an online retailer, such as Amazon, things may get a little more interesting. Currently, Harmonix is running into some issues updating the official store, so songs are queueing up and not getting released in a timely manner. Instead of the almost daily releases, we are currently seeing once-a-week releases. When this gets fixed, I’ll let you know.

In case you haven’t heard, way back in 2008, Konami sued Harmonix over some nonsense (probably not nonsense in a longwinded, legalese filled way) about patents regarding “simulated musical instruments” (AKA controllers), “music-game system” (most likely Rock Band’s ability to play back music), and “musical-rhythm matching game” (most likely Rock Band’s gameplay engine). When Viacom fired back (on behalf of Harmonix) with a similar strategy regarding Rock Revolution, things got a little tense.

Fast forward to last Friday (9-17-2010). They both agreed to drop everything. I hoped they learned something about this experience, namely that when you have a giant called Rock Band that has weekly DLC (that brings in ridiculous amounts of cash), boatloads of fans, bar nights dedicated to it, as well as communities such as ScoreHero, you can’t just wish them away.

Hey guys, there’s a great sale going on between now and October 4th for PS3 players. You can pick up quite a few Rock Band DLC tracks for half price. There are packs, albums, and singles in this discount, most of them being 50% off, so definitely take a look. Here’s what’s available:

This little rumor floated around a bit, but no one was providing solid evidence. I chalked it up to a that-would-be-nice DLC wish. Well, Harmonix pulled through and here’s the official track listing.

All songs are available for $1.99 (PS3), 160 MSP (360), or 200 Wii points. You can pick up the entire pack for $19.99 (PS3) or 1600 MSP (360).

Amazon’s got a great deal of the day going on. If you been holding out on GH5 till the bundle price comes down, this is the time to buy it. Amazon is selling the bundle for $49.99 on the Wii, PS3, and 360 and for $39.99 on the PS2. You can get the guitar only for $20 on the Wii, PS3, and 360 as well.
